In Reply To: i don't think there is any major downside to taking an undergraduate *internship* with a small shop. in fact it's pretty good to demonstrate that you had early curiosity about the industry. and congrats on getting the position, not many vc's offer internships. just be wary about taking a 1-2 year full time position with a cruddy firm...that's a little harder to rationalize.
Message: Thanks for your thoughts. Personally, I think they're hiring me cause I'm essentially "free" labor. I was offered a buy-out by my former employer (a Fortune 500 company) so I preferred not to take payment. I felt that would give me more freedom in terms of not being beholden to them. Also, can't accept $$ for other reasons which I won't get into in this public space. I accepted the position because it sounded interesting and something different to do during the summer instead of just hanging out. I hate to say it but I have to admit that "summer analyst" for a venture capital firm seemed like it would look good on my resume even if I ended up getting work for a consulting company instead. I also agree that working full-time for a cruddy place would not be in my best interests. Thanks again - you've been quite helpful!
