In Reply To: You know, I've read alot of posts on vault.com, and can't get over how individuals under the safe cloak of anonymity feel the need to browbeat and disparage people trying to exchange information in a positive light. This is particularly true in the investment banking boards, and I find it particularly disheartening to see it here. I CAN ASSURE YOU, I am not as you would term a, "stupid undergrad" (although I can only begin to guess at your background...) I find it hard to believe if I were to meet you at said "unrelated social functions" you would have anything worth saying to me considering how you treat people in this forum. I also find it hard to believe that you've made any decent networks with your utter lack of respect and knowledge of social mores. Anyhow, I'm sure there are numerous individuals who don't have graduate degrees who are managing funds and having success. I'm also sure that they come from many varied experiences and backgrounds. That said, there are apparently no direct "paths" to VC. The top-ten MBA is the closest thing to a "sure thing" for entering VC. So, why don't you "post something useful" and tell us how you made these supposed contacts? That would add to the quality of the exchange here, instead of making people defensive due to your derogatory remarks.
Message: True, I'm guilty of snapping off a little at the occasional rhetorical question. But the ones I've targeted are those made to perpetuate the here status quo, i.e. -your hopes and dreams will be smothered if a certain criteria is not met- (I'm currently working on a project that deals with innovation policy. Naturally, I'm concerned with how people perceive themselves as innovators.) I myself am a recent undergrad, and it astonishes me how comfortable my fellows are here posting on subjects on which they haven't the faintest idea. Like the famous thread "lots of misinformation," this place is awash with BS, and it pisses me off some.. so I say things like "stupid undergrads.." I do my own research and I post what I -know-. p.s. My "contacts" are family, friends of family, old profs, and people I've met through the above at "said" unrelated social functions.. :)
