I am very interested in novel ideas/technology in biotech and their commercial applications. I think that I would find working as a VC an intellectually rewarding experience due to the close contact w/ biotech entrepreneurs who are developing and implementing some really cool concepts.
Currently, I am about 12-18 months away from finishing up my PhD in a Pharmacology/Physiology program. In addition to my graduate work, 8 months ago I founded a biotechnology investment company. My company researches biotech companies (market caps ~$100 million and up to the big boys)with a focus on proprietary technologies, product pipeline development, and strategic alliances. Our research is written up in a report format designed to aid individual investors choose the best biotech investment opportunities. I have also developed a valuation system to help identify the best investments out of the smaller companies as those can be quite difficult for investors to assess.
Given my interests and experience, I believe that I am on the right track to work as a biotech VC at some point in the future. If anyone has comments or suggestions on what I should do to make myself as attractive a candidate as possible I would love to hear your opinions.
