Ok, so I'm a buyside analyst covering fiber optics. Is it possible to break into VC/PE with this background?
I assume that valuation is key for VC/PE, even though I don't have an operational/IB background.

Industry/market knowledge is good. Valuation skills sound good on paper but anyone who's ever closed an early stage investment knows that valuation is an art. Don't lead with that as your "value differentiator", stress your industry contacts and knowledge - you'll have a strongeer position when you interview.
