My bachelor's is in economics from a (good) state school, but no MBA. I do have 10+ years work experience, all technical with progressive responsibility (software development, Internet network engineering, project management, senior engineering management) and have worked at a Very Large telecom carrier for the last 6+ years. My company has a corporate venture arm and I have an offer from them.
I know that I won't have the financial perks of a VC at a private firm (no carry, no closing bonus, yearly bonuses in line with the corporate level) Given my background, do I have an opportunity at learning something there that will translate to a private firm? What are my chances at a private firm w/o an MBA but having substantial technical operating experience and a good financial background
Corporate VCs are always labeled "dumb money", does this job add or subtract in going to a private firm?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!
