In Reply To: I am a top 10% graduate if a top tier law school (30-40 range) with one year of patent prosecution experience (mostly biotech and medical device) and two years of corporate law (again working mostly with biotech and medical device companies). A few questions: How snobby are the VC's in terms of pedigree? I know that I-Banks are very elitist but haven't heard the same about the VC's. How oftent do JD's get into the VC biz, and will my experience in the bio/med device industry be enough to overcome my lack of a finance background? Is taking the CFA exam helpful for breaking into VC? Thanks in advance.
Message: You need more real operational or entrepreneurial experience. A JD from any school just means that you dotted a lot of I's and crossed a lot of T's for clients. You may be good at following procedure but analyzing companies takes a different skill and experience set. Get out of the law and get your hands dirty.
