Wow, sounds like you've done some pretty interesting stuff here. Good luck with your PhD...the last stretch is usually the hardest.
All this aside, I'm a bit put off by the equities job as it's a little on the dry side in comparison to working on something cutting edge. Most of the work of an analyst is more akin to accounting (tearing apart financial statements and building models), although these are all key skills I'm uncertain how 'fulfilling' it could be.
The Kauffman is for me, what your PhD is, i.e., a hopeful stepping stone into VC. I've spoken to a couple of VC firms in the US and they all seem to rate it (and more importantly) those who emerge from it, very highly. The chance to go learn some more/study a bit more? That actually excites me a lot, although nothing beats hands-on experience. But I think that the program is set up as an apprenticeship so the focus is on both experiential learning and backed up with theoretical/reflective classroom learning....sounds like the best of both worlds to me.
Thanks a lot for taking the time out to reply, I wish you the best of luck in your PhD and career thereafter.
All the best! |

cmocarroll do you mind me asking which bank you got your equity research offer from?
I am a medical doctor currently trying to get into pharma equity research.
