I am 1 year out of college and never really knew what I wanted to do, until I discovered venture capital and private equity. Currently I am an associate in auditing at PwC, so I know that my experience may not be the best to switch into a VC type position, but I do work with financial services companies and I feel I naturally have many skills and the drive to help me make the transition. Of course, though, I need a lot of networking to help! I want to stay in the Philadelphia, NYC, or DC area. Since this is all new to me, anyone who could help me out with names of VC funds or firms involved in private equity deals for middle market companies in those areas, please throw some ideas out there. I am not looking for the most prestigious job in the field, but I do want to work for an interesting company and have the opportunity to take on responsibility right away. Thank you! |

from the contacts I have and shops I know of, if you got in, you would essentially be a secretary. with only 1 year of work experience (auditing nonetheless) I would say its gonna be really tough/impossible to get into PE/VC, as the skillset does not transfer. The usual routine is 2 year analyst stint in IB, or else getting an MBA (but they still prefer some previous lev fin background)>
BTW, Boston is THE area for VC...many many shops up there.
