Based on my own experiences, I've seen a number of attorneys successfully make the transition to PE, but it is less common than the traditional IB or management consulting route. I imagine my firm would gladly hire (and they have) some of the associates that frequently work with us for post-mba associate positions. I can't speak for the Tier 1 buyout shops on promotions, but from what I do know, it typically takes ~3-5 years to be promoted from associate to a VP/junior partner level. It all depends on the firm's size and culture, but remember, a firm only needs so many partners, especially home grown ones with contacts that don't stand on their own. |
