I would love to know how realistic it is to expect landing a VC job directly after graduation...

When you say VC, do you mean private equity or early stage venture? Because honestly, it's very, very difficult to break into the early stage venture. You need to bring a combination of the following three things to the table: 1) contacts; 2) operating experience; and 3) industry expertise. Upon graduation, you possess little or none of these. Early stage VC is a craft industry with a very lean operating structure and little to no support below the partner level. One VC partner that I spoke with compared the chances of joining a VC to becoming a rock star. Yeah, everyone would like to do it and there may be alot of talented people out there. But it's a combination of talent, ambition and serendipity that gets you the job. However, it is much easier to break into PE. You typically need a few years of IB or mgmt consulting experience.
