In Reply To: I'm planning on taking almost 7 weeks off to do the annual American Lung Association BIG RIDE (x-country, Seatle to D.C.) bike ride in the summer of 2002. I've informed my current employer of this desire, and have not received any sort of response, other than the "you can bank up to xx hours per year". Given that I have a little more than a year, and can bank up to 240 hours, I'm still a little short. So my decision is: Perform one of the goals of my life, screw the job, or put off a life-goal and keep working. Guess what I'm going for....
Message: I think it's great you are going to go for it...and whatever the consequences. There are other jobs if it should come down to that. I am in such agreement with the Europeans on vacations. People absolutely need more than just a measley 1 or 2 weeks off during the year. Where I work, we are not given a time limit as to how much vacation we can take. We do however work on commission which makes a bit of a difference. But as long as we are producing, our boss doesn't care when, where or how long we will be gone. He's a big believer in putting life before work!
