Here's one for you...
My company gives us the "benefit" of *combined* vacation and sick leave -- only two weeks per year for me at present, though this does increase as you near and pass the five year mark. Heaven forbid you get laid out with the flu for the better part of a week -- it can completely hose your summer vacation plans!
I've lived abroad and traveled extensively -- I've also found folks in other countries to be shocked by our leave policies. Couldn't agree more with the person who described them as barbaric. So why do I stay with my company? I've been afforded great opportunities to grow professionally and advance within the company. They just don't budge on the vacation/sick leave thing, and getting more leave as a bonus simply does not happen. How do we get American employers to change this benefit???
