I am re-entering the work force after spending 2 years as a stay at home mom. Before my son was born, I was a teacher.
Hoping to get into a high tech firm, and thankfully I live in an area rich with opportunities. (Orange County, Ca)
Has anyone approached their job search by targeting the company you want to work for, and then hopefully moving throughout the company up the ladder.
I am considering this more for the stock options, etc. than for any other reason. I am considering sales, PR, or any area that can utilize my talents. I am a people person- organized, bright and ambitious.
Any advice and help is appreciated! |

We all essentially join a company and hope to work up the ladder. Contrary to popular belief though, it is easiest to get a job if you are looking for ONE thing specifically. My advice is to narrow your focus to one specific job function and set one specific career goal -- (for now, we all can change in due time) perhaps your goal is to be the director of interactive training for a softwware developement company. You would be an asset then on any R&D project dealing with the best ways to teach employees new products. You could start in a clerical role, a research role, an assistant role. Then move up the company, letting your supervisors assist you as you grow.
