I've got about 10 years experience in Financial Services and currently work as a Business Analyst. Through this position, I've gotten good exposure to Technology project and am interested in jumping to the IT side from the business side for the challenge and the money. I've got an MBA in Fiance and have gone back to complete a dual major in Inofrmation and Communication systems.
The classes have been valuable but will not put me in position for the transition that I want. I'm interested in Database Administration or in becoming a developer.
From the business side I have good experience in IT projects and implementation. How do I get myself to the point where I can apply for an IT job with confiedence that I'll be able to deliver? Can I do it without taking a hiatus from my current position? |

IT is pretty slow now from what I can see, but you can take night classes and get more involved in the technical side of projects to sharpen your IT skills.
Databases are always good to know (high end design, or Entity-relationship modelling). Unix/Linux also. Java and C are good languages to know. It's hard to say what will be "hot" 5 years from now but these technologies have been around for a while and don't seem to be going away anytime soon.
Good luck -og
