I've been a professional web developer / programmer for the past 3 years and have a strong track record, experience, and references, but I find I'm having a lot of difficulty getting interviews. I suspect that this is partially because I have no formal education or certifications. My question is this. How much weight in your experience do employers place on certifications such as the SJCP and Microsoft development certifications? How much weight is placed on having a college degree? |

Web design is a drug on the market as you are no doubt aware. Getting an undergrad degree is going to be important for you sooner or later, BTW, and this is probably part of your problem right now.
You might want to look into a series of books called Guerilla Marketing and do some real free-lance work until things pick up. That and start work on your B.A.
