Message: My message is in response to a posting landbasting all recruiters and recruiting firms. I have been in the Executive Search industry for 5 years. I work in Manhattan and sure there are firms out there that are not reputable, but people have to do their homework. Just like you do a little research on any professional before you utilize their services it applies when using a recruiting firm. I really take offense to someone who is obviously very ignorant and likes to generalize, that all recruiters are out for the almighty dollar. Sure, we are salespeople and yes we do work on commission, but those of us who are in the business and have respect for what we offer to clients are not going to sabotage our efforts and TIME to lie to candidates. I am not saying there are not firms out there, but again are you doing your homework or are you locating a firm and just making an appointment. Id like to clarify something else, the designation of recruiter could fall into personnel agency, contigency search, and retained search. If someone is new to the job market a contingency search firm could not or I should say 99% of them wouldn't, so entry level candidates are attracting personnel agencies, not executive search firms. If there are individuals out there seeking a highly reputable IT search firm in NYC, I recommend Platinum IT Consulting.
