In Reply To: Hello, I'm thinking of breaking into the IT industry. I have a BS in Business and am thinking about doing one of several things: Either: 1. Pursue a certification program for either an MCSE or some DBA related certificate. 2. Go straight into a IT Security certification program. 3. Go for another Bachelor's degree in MIS, since it would only probably take a year or so to get one with my Business Degree. I'm really lost as to what move to make next. I like the idea of IT Security only because it seems hot right now. But I have no IT experience and I have all these people telling me different things as to what to do. I just want to get a job. Can anyone help out?
Message: Take it from me. If you want to get into IT where there are plenty of people clamoring for competent (or even only HALF competent) candidates, it's IT security. Computer and Internet security from not only viruses, but hackers, is a big concern these days, so there are a lot of companies who need personnel who can do it! I work at a small Pennsylvanian recruiting firm, and there are always people who want good, competent security guys. Until you have at least a bit of education, submit resumes with the fact that you are working on a security degree. After you have at least minor knowledge, submit your resume for not only whatever you did before, but security too.
