In Reply To: With tech industry and the economy slowly warming up, many of us may face this decision. Would you go back to your old company; the same company that let you go? If so, will you go back with a sense of relief and gratitude that you are back in familiar country? Will you have a nagging thought that somehow you are now viewed as "damaged goods?" When the IPO bubble burst in the late 90s, many companies re-hired expatriates that jumped ship hoping for a quick hit. How are today's companies viewing their previous and recently RIF'd employees? Under what circumstances would you go back to your old job? Conversely, what would keep you from NOT going back assuming that you parted on good terms?
Message: It depends on the circumstances of course. If it got very personal I probably would not, particularly if anyone from the old management was involved! The most flattering thing I ever experienced was getting a call 6 months after I was let go from a consulting gig (because the year was up) by my old manager who wanted me back!..... In other circumstances I would want an apology from the manager(s) who screwed me up at the old job. But if it were a 'nothing personal' layoff because of a potentially terminal business condition, why the heck not?
