Hi,
Heres a question that has recently started chewing at me. How exactly does one tell their company that they no longer wish to advance up the promotion ladder? Here is my problem, currently (and for as long as I can keep it this way) Im a Sr. Software Engineer/Project Manager the next step up from this position is a "Suit" position. and my company wants me to move up. this will take me away from everything I love about my job. and get me completley out of programming. I love running my team. I love working on projects and actually writing code. but this new position would make it so I no longer work on any specific project but run multiple projects, and not write a line of code. I would mainly be working on budgets, managing project managers, assuring deadlines on multiple projects, etc.
Is it stupid of me not to want to move up? would it kill my career to say "Don't promote me I dont want to be a suit." I just don't know.
