Looking for input from other "veterans" of the high-tech world. Me: male, 50 y/o with over 20 years experience in marketing/new business applications experience. RIFd April of this year and encountering hardest job search of my life despite so called good economy. I am sure age is a BIG factor and I get calls about my resume and thise companies can't wait to get me in their office and when I arrive they seen like they are trying to discourage me. I have top-notch marketing, computer, business planning skills but am treated like a dinosaur that doesn't know how to type. Has anyone else in this age group encountered this? How did you get around it? I have always gotten wonderful feedback about how I performed in interviews but some weird excuse always pops up at the last minute like "they wanted someone high-energy", "they want someone phrenetic", "we are looking for someone not quite so established in their career (i.e, goatee, 25 years old with an MBA). I don't have an MBA and don't want to pursue one now. Feedback would be appreciated.
