This is my first job search since college, so I was hoping for some suggestions.
I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in 2000. Since then, I've been a software engineer doing operating system development (z/OS)for IBM in Poughkeepsie using a proprietary programming language (PL/X).
The problem I believe I will have is that although I am familiar with other languages (C,C++,etc), all my job experience is in PL/X (well, some assembler,JCL,etc). I've got a lot of great experience as a software engineer and team leader I'd like to leverage to a new position outside the company.
I'm looking to hear suggestions on my job search from people who've been in the same spot - finding a new job where you'd have to use a language you've got no career related experience.

I wouldn't think you should have any trouble finding a job, working with z/OS and also having a BS Degree. I wish I was in your shoes.
Finding a position higher up than the one you have may take some diligence, though anymore companies are looking for 'people' first, and skills second, from what I personally am experiencing. My problem is I don't have a 4 yr degree, that's what is killing me.
I don't know what PL/X compares to, but you might, so play off of that, C++ is good, is Visual C#.NET far-fetched ?
Almost every company around me wants 'some' experience with VB, SQL, .NET or Oracle, I have none of those, nor do I have a 4 yr degree.
Do you want to move ? You may have to.
