In Reply To: In my experience, companies only pay their employees between $1000 - $5000 as a referral bonus for finding good employees. Let's assume the referred job candidate comes in at $70,000 (which is a conservative number) ... that means the referral bonus is only around 1.5% - 7% of the new hire's salary. That's pathetic compared to the 25-30% that recruiters make! I think companies need to smarten up and properly encourage their own employees to help build the company.
Message: As it is blatantly obvious, you are definitely not a member of the executive staff at your organization, I will respond to this. I am a "headhunter" and as such, I receive very hefty fees for my services. On the other hand I realize that my services are not always cost effective to companies which may be struggling financially, vieing for an IPO, or merely looking out for their shareholders. There's a crazy little thing out there called.....The Bottom Line! Companies are in business to make a PROFIT you schmuck. If they give their employees 25-30% of the salary, how long do you think you'd be employed? It seems to me that, in the interest of promoting the viability of your company, and thus ensuring your future success as well, you should be referring people to your company for free, rather than milking your company for a few bucks. How does it feel to be a money grubbing prostitute?
