You have no idea what you are getting into as a Group Leader for Target Distribution Centers. I know, I was there and was lucky to finally escape with my sanity intact. The hours you will work are insane. 60 to 80 hours a week are not uncommon.
Even with a outstanding leadership skills, being a Group Leader is extremely challenging. Nothing you do will ever be 'good enough'. The politics you will have to deal with push you beyond any previous level of patience.
There is zero work/life balance. None of the upper D.C. management care about if you ever see your family or not. They only want results and don't want you to have a life. Besides covering a shift of about 45 hourly teammates with all their problems, you will have numberous 'special projects', committe meetings and projects, safety activites, and employee issues. The amount of work expected of you is out of proportion to what is possible.
When you consider the amount of hours you are working(LOTS of unpaid overtime) the pay is not very good.
Morale among the Group Leaders in my D.C. was very low. Many of us quit, right at a time when Target is looking to open more distribution centers. Upper mgmt. does a very poor job of developing and retaining their executives.
If you are looking for a job that will require impossible hours, then, by all means, be a Target Distribution Group Leader. |
