In Reply To: and the first few times I saw him on tv, I thought, "Who's that dope in the bowtie??" Imagine a dreadlocked, bearded Woodstock-looking dude spouting conservative views on a tv show. He could be echoing the talking points of the Right, but Republicans will only see the "dirty hippie." In Carlson's case, new/younger viewers, many of whom could be voting for the first time in 2008, will get it into their heads that they really don't want to be like Mr. Bowtie, even though they may actually agree with his message had it been delivered by someone else. Problem is, there's no dirty hippie representing the Right, and Carlson - with bowtie - is now hosting a show on MSNBC. Wear it the other 23 hours of the day, Tucker. No sellout at all. Take one for the team.
Message: ...But you have to mix it up a little. You cannot be "that guy." I agree with criquifan, he is turning away potential allies and viewers. Republican Hippies... Hmm... What about the owner of the Whole Foods Corporation. He has got to be a Republican Hippie. That place is an oxymoron in itself. Kaplan should go for that guy over Tucker.
