here in Miami, we had a PLANE CRASH at around 4pm...right in the middle of Jacko-Mania.
it wasn't a small plane either, it was a DC-3 engulfed in a fireball that landed inches away from homes...
on a normal week, this would be the biggest news for that week, but today it got buried by wacko jacko.
all the stations here did interrupt their MJ coverage for about an hour then went back to jacko for the rest of the day...
what would you have done...this huge story literally drops out of the sky and into your market, but some mentally-ill celebrity's verdict will be announced somewhere on the other side of the planet...

That's why they invented the split screen. You could have easily of carried both at the same time. Clearly your better pictures were with the plane. Jacko wasn't a video-worthy story at all.
You owed it to your local viewers and your community to carry the plane crash. The plane COULD have actually changed a lot of folks lives in your market (and probably did). Wacko getting off scott-free didn't affect one single viewer in your market. Not one.
And in the end, that's what local news is supposed to be all about. L-O-C-A-L news.
