In Reply To: As a Socal native I can tell you to head to TN...$90K is lower middle class with the price of real estate. There is massive overcrowding and traffic, bad air quality and high prices for everything else. Love the area, it's just gotten out of control. Never been to TN but know people there who love it. Get all 4 seasons. Don't know about schools, but that $60K will go a lot farther. Good luck whatever you decide!
Message: I'm also a SoCal native... but I would take 60-70k in Knoxville over 90K in Los Angeles ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. That being said, you've got to take into account your family's personalities. Are they more impressed with trendy clubs/restaurants, nightlife and 24 hour stuff to do, or are you cool with the Smoky Mountains, four season weather, outdoor activity and UT sports? Really, either way, it should be easy for you... the two cities couldn't be more different... unlike if you were comparing LA vs. SF or Knoxville vs. Asheville.
