this whole thing is..you see these people, i assume, EVERY DAY of your working life..you MUST have to communicate with them about SOMETHING daily..why are you having problems just sitting down and chatting with them?..what the hell are you so afraid of?..conversations are the easiest thing in the world to start..how do you think we do our jobs every day?..we TALK to people..i'm guessing, simply because i cannot for the life of me think of a single logical alternative explanation, that someone, somewhere along the line accused you of being an ass-kisser, and you completely overreacted to the situation ..and have now allowed it to poison your ability to talk with anyone higher up the ladder..tell me i'm wrong.. i hope to god i am..but there just isn't anything else i can think of as even a remote possibility... |

But you might want to think of your ND (or GM or GSM or any other executive) as a PERSON instead of a boss. You may NEVER have anything in common with them, but finding out what they're interested in, what makes them tick will help. Or talk to them about the stories of the day. Or get advice on a story/series your working on.
It's not sucking up or kissing ass, it's forging relationships with the people you spend most of your waking hours with. And unless your ND is a real jerk, he/she would probably find it refreshing to talk to an employee he knows very little about.
