Living in ABQ,NM and have two opportunites for relocation which is something we want. One is in Knoxville, TN with salary in the 60k-70k range. The other is in Thousand Oaks, CA for around 90k. Must stress I am not in television but a related industry. Married with 3 children. Love to hear some thoughts from you folks that do some moving and maybe have lived in one or both of the above mentioned areas. |

'Related industry' is pretty vague. Knoxville is home to one large production company, which could be your consideration. But otherwise, the market is slim.
Thousand Oaks, as said above, is not LA, but close enough to get another gig if your other one goes away.
Nox'-vul (Ya gotta say it right) has its advantages, and is real family oriented, but remember Knoxville is EAST Tennessee and a LOT slower than Albq.
The state really has four distinct identities, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville (Which is probably the most cosmopolitan, if you can say that about Tenn.) Knoxville may be good for a family, but not so hot for careers, and it's certainly the most sedate of the four.
90K is an OK wage in Thousand Oaks, and the schools are much better there than the Valley or other LA burbs. But also remember you're not IN L.A. but a fairly quiet small town that's probably just as provincial as Knoxville in many ways. (T.O. is also home to a fairly well regarded college)
Obviously other factors are important besides comparing Hollywood to Dollywood. 30 k salary difference is nothing to sneeze at.
Will one company move you while another won't? What does your spouse think and what kind of work does she do, if any? What kind of activities do you and your kids like?
Most important, where do you see your future?
