Today show's interview this morning with Natalee's mom was horrible. Who thought up the questions -- Katie or her producer? Whoever did they need to go back to Interviewing 101. The AP managed to ask some decent questions. Maybe print interviews better than broadcast people these days.
Hey Today show, next time you get a shot at the mom, try asking this:
1. When did you meet with the 3 boys?
2. What were your impressions of them?
3. What did they tell you?
4. Who arranged the meetings?
5. Have you met their parents?
6. Have you talked to their friends?
7. Have you been out searching?
8. Where have you searched? Did you look in places other than the lighthouse?
9. Did Natalee's friends say she was sitting in the front or back seat of the car when she drove away from the bar?
10. The local paper reported Joran had anger management counseling. Have you found out why? How violent a person do they say he is?
11. Have you asked Joran's mother why it was alright for her 17 yo son to be a regular at bars and casinos?
In general, I think networks have done some of the worst reporting on this story I've ever seen. Cable has been all over it. But what's the problem down there with network people? Are you guys enjoying your Aruba location too much? Hanging on the beach? Drinking at Carlos n' Charlies with the other reporters and producers?
Get out there and get the story. There are Americans living in Aruba. Talk to them and see who their contacts are among the locals. Read the local paper or have a local translate the papiamento for you. For pete's sake, act like a journalist.
