The main reason for all the junk airing...
Go to the annual RTNDA convention and take a look.
Most of the "leaders" were
kids in high school that couldn't get a date, had pimples on their face, and had as much "bravado" as a cross dresser...
Now--they're in charge.
To make matters worse, GM's continue to hire the same wimps...
Don't change the shirt--just wash it a little and give it to another poor GM.
The "pool" is tainted--catch my drift....
Nothing changes.

Actually, I agree that 99.9% of all news directors out there operate in a CYA mode most of the time...but it may not be completely their fault. The problem, IMO, is that most general managers today are micro-managers and only give limited authority to their news directors. It's happening everywhere...because the GM's are in CYA mode and it all stems from the top.
