In Reply To: I have no idea how this thread has lasted as long as it has. But regardless, let's cut to the chase. I can't even make up a reason an Atlanta station - be it WSB or otherwise - would ignore a significant development in this decades-old case. They simply would not ignore a potential blockbuster story. And - trust me on this - relationships with city leaders (PD or otherwise) are far from cozy. If anything they've reached a decades-old low. The sad truth -- and I won't defend this -- is in the ATL (as in many other markets), local TV stations simply do not have the resources to conduct a full scale investigation on all the tidbits of "new" information that comes up. If there is any fault, this is it. I can unequivocally state there is no desire to squash, cover up, or ignore this story. To think so would be giving these stations WAY too much credit.
Message: These Atlanta stations seem to have the time and resources to go after the story of the missing Birmingham girl in Aruba! Why? Because it's sexy and easy. It involves a beautiful, white, wealthy girl who has disappeared on a famous international playground, Aruba. But, in their own backyard of Atlanta, remain the parents of 29 murder victims who, after 25 years, still search for closure to their childrens' deaths. They still refuse to believe that Wayne Williams was the killer. They feel that he's a political prisoner and that they've been deceived by the police and the FBI. Why isn't THIS being covered with the same zeal and effort as the girl in Aruba?
