Ok. I can try this on, but how do you go about developing the relationship without feeling awkward, and unreal? I have no problems with others in the newsroom, and with contacts out in the field, but it doesn't seem genuine with a news director (most), hence I don't attempt to get to know them since it doesn't feel real. I feel like I'm pretending too much...and that I'm giving off the impression of trying to get something out of being nice.
An example, if I were stuck in an elevator with the news director...I'd make small talk but wished the doors would open soon, and we were stepping off at different levels.
Thanks for all the input and advice.
It's taking the first step, without seeming fake, that I struggle with.
Anyone else have stories to share, and how did you break out of it?

since you last talked with the nd or at least assistant nd/exec producer?? if it's been a while that alone is an excuse. 'hi, wanted your feedback on (one of the stories you covered recently), can i make a time to bring by a tape?' you would only have to book 15 mins of their time (maybe the actual convo would take longer) - tape: 2 mins, rest of convo: priceless
