In Reply To: Being a "hot" minority is not a passport to the top, despite what the previous posters have said. I have found that the networks are more interested in my blonde and/or white peers. The last two female hires at ABC News for example were white women, one blonde and one brunette. (And yes, I am smart, I know how to write and I write well. I can do a live shot with my eyes closed and I have a j-school degree) Mostly it is just luck in this business. :-)
Message: I think the most important thing I would say is this... #1) No matter how attractive you think you are...in television, there are always 20 other equally attractive people up for that job. So here's what the ND does... he singles out maybe, the top 10 people with the best look... but THEN... it comes down to reporting. So your look will likely (if your reporting is good) get you placed in the "keeper" pile. However, your not in the door. BC your reporting has to be 10 times better than the other 20 beautiful girls. And secondly...as the other posters said...sure it may get you in the door...but staying in the job is very hard...and if you dont perform..youll get canned. Finally...I have heard ND's say: "She looks too much like a barbie doll". They want someone in the middle. Attractive, but not someone who thinks they are brad bitt or halle berry.
