What were the jobs you referenced?
What is this Different Goal you speak of?
Working to turn the entire newsproduct into several half-hours full of police blotter information?
Creating a culture of fear and loathing?
Yeah, that what our jobs are supposed to be.
Flash 'em! Tease 'em! Scare the BeJeesus out of 'em!!
Don't forget 13 rode the CSI wave along with every other cbs affiliate in the country... (and yes they got there too with some very talented and good people!)
Dan was quirky, bordering on creative...
But he was more a bi-polar Mad-Scientist trying to sell you, us, management, the pub some snake oil.
Entertaining, perhaps... silver tongued, definitely.
I think The Bard sums up Salamone best:

13's coverage is way more than cops and robbers and includes the best investigative reports in the city (a Dan hire).
If it's so easy to catch the "CSI wave" why didn't KOIN ride it? I'm confused. You say Albuquerque success was achieved in spite of management and was all about network lead-ins and a few talented people... but in Portland with the same network, same news director, different talent pool... the problems are all management's fault. I'm done trying to keep up with this logic. Seems like someone has a personal axe to grind.
By the way, it doesn't take poetry or courage to call someone an idiot.
