You don't sound like you've ever done much reporting. A reporter has to deal with the real world machine--movers & shakers, sources, witnesses, etc. Besides that, what makes a producer more qualified to deal with the corporate machine than a reporter? And the idea that a reporter necessarily focuses on just "one thing at a time" is laughable--it reflects your lack of understanding about what reporters do. Sadly, you ignorance is typical of many news managers.
