they're shooting themselves in the foot not doing local weather in their markets.
Whatever economies they achieve in centralized weather are more than defeated by low numbers due to inadequate local weather.
Since weather continues to be the #1 element in drawing an audience -- especially on nights like Thursday -- lost revenues from the low numbers due to shoddy weather will far exceed any salary and graphics hardware/data costs savings...probably by a factor of at least 2 or 3.
It's simply bad business. Centralizing weather on local news is not going to be the wave of the future because it simply doesn't work financially.
