In Reply To: someone like you means exactly what it means, someone like the person who posted the response who would feel I was labeling ALL Southerners. And people like YOU just had to find something in the to prove I am racist or biased, because I actually fessed up that someone made a valid point about what I said. And the last post; I have to say I have always wondering about that...almost anywhere else in the world people who are technically Caucasian have more ability to move to a beat than white people in America. And I'm a black person who admittedly can't really dance, but I can clap to a beat or find the beat. I dated a white guy and God Bless His soul he could not clap in unison with anyone without being a beat behind. Like Eddie Murphy used to say "Are they listening to the music or the words?" And I'm just making a joke there people; I know there are some white people who can move albeit not as fluid...but I will give credit where credit is due... Justin Timberlake can move and Christina Aguilera, trashy as she is, can blow. Its ALL so much more complicated than what we in the this country are willing to admit. Many of these differences are/were introduced and reinforced by people and institutions with had an agenda...making sure that certain groups of people hold power and others don't and insuring constant conflict of class and race. There's a great PBS documentary called "Who is White" it would shock a lot people who have forgotten how much the idea of being white has been shaped by politics and power and the access it has given people to opportunity. Alot of people probably didn't know but Italian Americans were not considered white at one point in our history, but Japanese people were. Then it changed when white Americans felt threatened by Japanese. Anywhere else in the world Hispanic people are typically not classified together as a "race" as they are in America. That's because they can be of all races...and to go further....some people who study this are still baffled as to how Native Americans and East Asians and Asian Indians came to be classified together in the same racial category at one point..Monogloid. And where do the Aborigines fit in??? Ever read "Cane River" or Ann Rice's "The Feast of All Saints." they point out Americas complex racial history in a way most Americans are not comfortable with. Most Americans are ignorant of these things because race has hurt and divided us so we try to ignore the obvious...like Vanessa Williams didn't get green eyes and fair skin because ALL her ancestors came from West Africa and were slaves. Malcom X had red hair, but I don't know too many red haired Africans...how do suppose that happened? My hair is very thick long and wavy and I have to shave legs, arms, etc...most African tribes have minimal body hair....where do you think I got that trait from? We just don't think logically. Okay, I've said more than enough.
Message: All I meant was Larry McMurtry is a Texan and Flannery O'Connor is a Southerner and they ain't the same. From there to Malcolm X had red hair?
