In Reply To: ... Playing field is wahat you get. Having been on all sides of labor and management, it is my opinion that under most circumstances unionization is desirable. If you've got a hero for an agent... ooops the same thing as a union only your a union of one... you probabaly won't need or desire union representation. If you're in a decent working situation at your present shop then you'll probably be againest unions... I was! Let me tell you having been on both sides of a collective bargining aggreement, it can and often does help all those involved... labor and management. With all the nitty, gritty issues worked out alot of time, enregy, and hurt feelings are spared. Are there lousy union shops... yes. Are there great union shops, yes. I have been in several different unions over the last 30+ years... I have also been in management during that time. To be honest with you I actually find managing within the confines of a collective bargining aggreement much easier than managing without one. So in my opinion if you haven't been on the inside your opinions are rather baseless. My fifty cents... fire at will!
Message: WHat I am trying to say is, the union doesn't make the shop better. and in KOIN's case, it is certainly not the answer. the answer is better owners, and better managers. the union, will now make it harder on the staff, not better. because they will have their wages frozen until an agreement is reached. and that isn't going to happen for a LOOONG time.
