that you're working in a pressure-packed, ego-driven business..and that there are, and always WILL BE, people in this business who will stab you in the back with ten large knives and leave them there to use as steps to climb over YOUR back to get what THEY want..
with that in mind, why don't you try just talking with management people whenever you can, and when they have the time..just present yourself as who and what you are, and see what happens..a lot of it depends on the managers..i'm fortunate beyond words to work for a news director who is the model for what ALL news directors SHOULD be..honest, straightforward, approachable, and extremely competent at what he does..disregard anyone on this board who advises you to stay away from management..management is what it is.. the people who have control over our professional lives..get to know them..you'll find out they're people, too..don't "suck up", or "kiss-ass"..and don't listen to any of your co-workers who accuse you of it..most of them are bitter little people who have little or no hope of advancement, and know it..just be yourself.. a normal everyday person..they'll see it, and they'll notice it.. and as the relationship grows, they'll relax enough to drop some hints as to why you might be having the troubles you seem to be..and how you might correct it..i hope you get lucky enough to get an ND like ours..but NOT him.. his name is steve cohen, and you can't have him!!! |

Most of life is based on building and maintaining relationships; sometimes there are personality conflicts where people just don't click with each other, but you have to at least try. And while there are folks who do not like to suck up, sometimes you just gotta do it. You are your own best press agent, and if you're smart enough, you'll figure out how to get your self and your strengths across.
