In Reply To: and EPs are former Photographers. They know the technical, creative, and logistical sides of news AND they know what the world is like outside the station
Message: that whoever is an ND has had some time in the field.. the more the better..for that matter, that should extend to ANYONE on the "management" track..producers, assignment editors (ESPECIALLY assignment editors!)..far too many people in this business don't have it, and it shows..i can't count how many times i've had a producer jump all over me because the story i, the reporter, am standing there LOOKING at doesn't jibe with the story they were told it was in the morning meeting..i've actually been ordered on several occasions to change the story i SEE AND HEAR in the field so that ti comports with what the producer was told in the "meeting"..six hours before..obviously, i refused..but they have no idea.. (and god forbid they should have to restack that rundown they put to bed two hours ago..)
