KOIN is a continuously changing landscape. Perhaps we want to feel secure for when the next non-caring, condescending, know-it-all manager comes in and fires the few good people we have left. |

Guess what? I was once exactly in your situation. I found out, too late, that the union can't stop ANY of the things you think they can! they can't save ANYONE's job! They can't stop managers from being assholes! They can't stop any of the crap that got you so frustrated.
two years from now, when they finally have an agreement with whoever owns the station by then, you will be asked to vote on it and ratify the contract.
And you will discover that all the union is interested in is, setting pay levels, standardizing benefits and collecting dues.
I GUARANTEE you one of the first items the union will want from management is, "check off"
that's the right for the station to deduct the dues from your check and send it to the union.
I have personally seen a union give up a better pay raise for check off instead.
Is "check off" important to you? Of course not! But its very important to the union, because they want their MONEY!
Collective bargaining is a business. and you just got screwed.
