In Reply To: Our job is to reach an audience for advertisers. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking TV news is more than that. If what we do doesn't draw an audience, what we end up doing is try to find a new job.
Message: As the 2 previous posts infer, we are no longer about news but about being a host for advertisements. These 2 are what is wrong with news today. New should be about information and local, national, and world events presented in a direct way to appeal to an adult viewer. Instead we trivialize, we compact, we sensationalize and, ultimately, water down our news product to appeal to the Game Boy generation seeking hyper action, overwhelming graphics, and the simplest message possible. Why not write, produce, edit etc.for an older demographic say 35-50, the baby boomers, and, hopefully lift news coverage to a higher intellectual level thus forcing the Game Boy generation to actually think about current events locally, nationally and in the world? News should not be a fast, multi colored, swath with no depth or information given.
