In Reply To: I've always been scared to suck up, and I've been raised to be a little humble when it comes to my work. That said, I get along with everyone in my newsroom, but I always thought it was better to keep your distance from management, less spoken, less problems? But that's wrong? and how do you go about strenghtening relationships with management? I've always sort of kept them at a distance, for whatever reason.
Message: you ahead and you do it. Before strengthening a relationship, first you have to HAVE one. How do you approach a person (male or female) who you find interesting? In the workplace you already have the advantage of knowing something about the people around you. I know what you mean by "keeping them at a distance", and I tend to agree. But you don't want that distance to be so great that they lose sight of you. They don't have to become your best friends. Just close enough to be able to see the person behind the worker.
