No we don't cover every child molester but we should. Of course, every time a high school teacher or church youth leader is accused with child molestation we make it the lead story. As we should. Adults in any position of control over children should be held accountable for their actions. And certainly when the child molester (accused) is an international recording artist who was number one for several years running (not just a one hit wonder) the amount of coverage is justified.
Look let's all be real. What MJ is charged with is so disgusting it is easier for us to look the other way and just say "it's sensationalism and I am way too intelligent to care". And it is that attitude that allows people like him to get away with this and other criminal acts. Cherry, maybe you SHOULD give a damn! Stop watching the Simpsons and start caring about what is happening in the world around you.

1. MJ was a phenom back in the day. No doubt about it. Thriller is still one of the highest selling records in history. I still listen to it everyonce in a while along with Purple Rain just to go back to those happy adolescent days.
2. For those of us in the "gen x" range (mostly in our 30's now) a large part of our childhood was learning the moonwalk, and the "Beat it" dance.
3. Watching a favorite singer wash his life down the toilet for various reasons -- think it started with the urchase of the elephant man's remains --- has been facinating in a morbid curiosity kind of way. All scratching out heads and thinking "how did this happen?"
4. This is not the first time he has been accused of such a thing.
5. SO yes! We may not like it, but there is something here and yes, it is a story. Like someone said in a previous post, if not LA, it should not be the lead story. I think for the most part it is not, and mainly a blurb after the weather stating "there still is no verdict...".
So -- the bottom line is... do we care -- not all of us may admit it, but I will bet most will turn and watch when the verdict comes in. By the way... Unless the verdict comes in the next half hour... I get the $72. I will be at the traveling to the Jersey Shore later on tonight. If you can find me -- drinks are on me.
