Of course it will work. The job categories of "reporter" and "videographer" will cease to exist. They will be replaced by a "content provider." This hybrid news animal will develop skills at both reporting AND shooting. The Content Provider will be goood enough at both to get a product on the air. The product will meet a minimum standard, but at first it may not be as good as what some of us in the industry might expect. Remember--we don't need award-winning investigative journalism or outstanding photography in the conventional sense. Standards of quality will evolve with practice, and what's considered great today may not be considered all that great in 20 years. In TV news, only one thing is permanent: change.
