1. You never have a communication problem between reporter and videographer.
2. It saves money.
Number two is the most important, and the reason why it could be the wave of the future.
But for all the reasons so eloquently mentioned by NewsMom, it will compromise quality. |

The inescapable fact is that when you're shooting, you're NOT reporting. And when you're not reporting, you're not producing what brings viewers into the tent: information.
Sure, some pictures of a flower show or police chase are nice, but people who want news are looking for more. Stations that decide to cheap out and try to rationalize it as doubling the number of cameras on the street forget that the viewers will learn that they've eliminated the reporters they used to have on the street.
Ratings will continue to plummet, pathetic managers will continue to blame "competition" - and never admit that they've sown the seeds of their own destruction, and carefully cultivated them to make sure they grow.
