You'd be surprised by how much great work there is in lots of small towns where omb's are the rule. They help make plenty of 100+ markets look much larger than they really are. Agreed, that nobody is both a terrific reporter and photog. But strict adherence to the fundamentals of shooting (tripod, white balance, shot composition, avoiding excessive zooms and pans) and most can achieve 90+% -- and that's more than acceptable. We're entering a time when fewer of us will be cranking out more stories and doing it all faster. The posters are right -- one-man-banding is the future. I know, I've been a big market reporter who had to learn to shoot. And I'm having more fun than ever! |

1. You never have a communication problem between reporter and videographer.
2. It saves money.
Number two is the most important, and the reason why it could be the wave of the future.
But for all the reasons so eloquently mentioned by NewsMom, it will compromise quality.
