That's all well and good, but Dana's "longevity" = "elderly" audience. Correct?
What's the "snowball effect" of lousy demographics?
Let's use the Randy Johnson example again. Cy Young candidate last year, middling pitcher this year, who-knows-what next year. See? Is the dough worth the show?
I'm thinking Halsey. Boy will he be popular if/when he's 15-8 come October, huh??

You clearly have no info on the demographics of Dana's appeal. While he is certainly older than most other anchors, his "appeal" (again, to use your term) spans a broad spectrum and will continue to do so through at least his current contract. True, he may lose some viewers in key demographics along the way. But TV Broadcasting is not like baseball where a player's career can suddenly go south due to a combination of luck and rapidly declining skills (and remember, most of the Yankee's losses have nothing to do with RJ). The decline of a broadcasters "appeal" is much slower, especially when the broadcaster's reputation is as firmly established Dana's.
