I have a chance at getting to host a new cable TV show that is likely non-union. i also work in a top 5 union town (freelance)....thus I am a member of AFTRA....I've seen actors and the like host shows on cable. Any suggestions on how I can do this without my local screaming Rule one? |

1. Find out if it is non union - don't just speculate.
2. If it's on a cable station that AFTRA isn't trying to organize or hasn't organized, you have no trouble.
3. Talk to AFTRA in advance, and they'll let you know what the deal is.
Many AFTRA members work in non union cable, particularly at oufits like CNN, MSNBC and Faux. Because there are no active organization efforts at those outlets, working there is not a violation of AFTRA Rule 1 - it's just a bad deal for the talent.
