Longtime Seattle reporter and commentator Ken Schram used one of his commentaries to focus on what Seattlites know as "Lactivists." In other words, angry breast-feeding mothers who want to shake the stigma of breast feeding in public. But Schram fired back saying in essence, "It's natural...but so is urinating...You don't want to see me urinating in public, and I don't want to see mothers breast-feeding in public."
After the taped report, KOMO's main anchor, Kathi Goertzen responded by saying....
"Get over it Schram! What an idiot!" ON THE AIR...to the audible shock of her co-anchors. |

We're talking apples and oranges...
First of all, I never accused Schram of being "stiff, staid, and boring." (I just accused him of getting crotchety...!) Actually, as someone who states his opinion for a living, it's his JOB to infuse a little emotion into his work-- whether I agree with him or not.
However, the same can't be said of news anchors. It's not in the job description. And as a result, too many of them "play it safe" and don't let ANY of their true feelings be known. It's a breath of fresh air to see one let a little personality through every once in a while. You don't really see much of that in Seattle.
Besides, Schram dishes it out and then asks for a response from viewers. He should be able to handle the same kind of criticism from his co-workers.
